Program Awards Criteria and Description

The Advisor of the Year is awarded to someone who is committed to fostering student involvement and academic, social, personal, and intellectual growth. Also, this is awarded to a person who has had a positive developmental impact on the students who he/she advises. Please type your reasons for nominating this individual in the box below, and do not exceed 150 words. PLEASE NOTE: You may select any graduate assistant or professional staff member who *advises* students on a regular basis.

The Live-in Graduate Assistant of the Year is awarded to someone who is committed to fostering student involvement and academic, social, personal, and intellectual growth. As well, it is awarded to someone who is committed to their own professional development, and someone who strives to enhance residence life experience for students. Please type your reasons for nominating this individual in the box below, and do not exceed 150 words.

The Live-out Graduate Assistant of the Year is awarded to someone who is committed to fostering student involvement and academic, social, personal, and intellectual growth. As well, it is awarded to someone who is committed to their own professional development, and someone who strives to enhance residence life experience for students. Please type your reasons for nominating this individual in the box below, and do not exceed 150 words.

The Professional Staff Member of the Year is awarded to someone who is committed to fostering student involvement and academic, social, personal, and intellectual growth. As well, it is awarded to someone who is committed to their own professional development, and someone who strives to enhance residence life experience for students. Please type your response in the box below, and do not exceed 150 words. PLEASE NOTE: You will select only one professional staff member. He or she must be at the Coordinator level, (Assistant Directors will not be considered for this award).

Senior RM of the Year Award This Nomination is for a Resident Mentor who excels at the duties of a typical RM and also who will not be returning for the following year (due to graduating or choosing not to return). Anyone can submit a nomination, but each nomination will be verified and supported by the building supervisor and/or Assistant Director. Other requirements for this Award: The RM must write a speech reflecting on their learning moments from the past year and either come back to speak at the 2012 opening banquet or video-record their speech for a presentation during the opening banquet.

Area RM of the Year (one awarded for North, Central, South) This nomination is for a Resident Mentor that excels at the duties typical of an RM. Anyone can submit a nomination but each nomination will be verified and supported by the building supervisor and/or Assistant Director.

Most Improved RM This nomination is for a Resident Mentor that has show dramatic improvement from the beginning of their tenure up to the date of this submission. Please include specific examples why this RM has show improvement.

Community Builder of the Year This nomination is for a Resident Mentor who has gone above and beyond to build an excellent community on their floor and within their building. Please include specific examples of how this RM has built an extraordinary community.

Rookie of the Year This nomination is for a first-year Resident Mentor who excels at the duties typical of an RM.

Crisis Manager of the Year This nomination is for a Resident Mentor who excels at managing and resolving crisis situations and issues in their hall. This individual is committed to the job and to promoting and maintaining the safety and security of their community.

Make sure to check for all grammatical and spelling errors and correct them. Once it is submitted we cannot change any part of the nomination and it must be sent on to the state and regional levels potentially forming an inaccurate impression of the quality of the nominee.

Put the time into writing a nomination the nominee deserves.

We know how busy people are and all of you want to give recognition to the nominee so take the time to write a great nomination that really says how great the person or program is.

Make them interesting.

Real people, your peers read these OTYs. Make them fun, conversational, but still professional. Don’t be afraid to make them entertaining and informative at the same time. The reader will appreciate it.
