James "Jimmy" McClellan
Residence Life Coordinator, Honors Residence

Joining the Gamecock family in June 2016, Jimmy serves the Honors Residence, where the majority of first-year Honors College students call "home". Prior to coming to the University of South Carolina, Jimmy worked as an elementary school educator in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn in New York City through Teach For America. It was during his time as a Teach For America Corps Member that he found his passion for education, specifically for working to empower all students, regardless of background, to create their own definition of success and chart paths toward their goals.

Jimmy obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL), a Master of Arts in Teaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education (New York, NY), and a Master of Arts in Education concentrating in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA). His personal interests include learning the history of places he has lived, hiking spots that have great views at the end, reading nonfiction, and trying new dessert spots.
